Red Sox Acquire Danny Valencia

The Boston Red Sox have traded minor league outfielder Jeremias Pineda to the Twins for third baseman Danny Valencia, the teams announced.

Valencia, 27, is struggling mightily this season in batting to a line of .198/.212/.310 with only two home runs in 34 games this season. Valencia was a former Rookie of the Year candidate in 2010 in which he finished in third behind winner, Neftali Feliz and Tigers outfielder Austin Jackson. That season, he played in 85 games and hit to a .311/.351/.448 line with seven home runs and 40 RBIs. He will be optioned to Triple-A Pawtucket.

Pineda, 21, has never played above the Rookie League. He holds a career line of .321/.380/.423 including a .421 batting average in 36 games this season. He has decent speed, also. He will be optioned to the Gulf Coast League Twins.

About Richard Janvrin

I'm a single dad who loves Baseball. In particlar, the Tampa Bay Rays, but I'm a baseball fan too. My sons name is Evan, after the great Evan Longoria. I love him to death. My son, not Longoria. Ha! Hope you enjoy my blog(s).
