The Chicago Cubs continue to sell.

Next up, Geovany Soto.

Soto, who has been awful this year (.195/.278/.345 6 HR 14 RBI), will provide more catching depth to the Rangers. Retroactive to this deal, the Rangers have designated Yorvit Torrealba for assignment.

Soto, 29 holds a career line of .252/.341/.445. His best season was his rookie season by far. In 2008, he won Rookie of the Year, hit 23 HR and 86 RBIs with a line of .285/.364/.504 and an .868 OPS.

In the deal, the Cubs acquire RHP Jacob Brigham according to Dan Knobler via twitter.

Brigham, 24, was drafted by the Rangers in the sixth round of the 2006 draft. He’s pitched to a career minor league record of 27-42 with an ERA of 4.40 through 135 minor league games, 101 of which were starts. This season he is 5-5 with a 4.28 ERA with a 8.4 K/9.

Update: The trade includes Soto and cash and Brigham and cash or a PTBNL.
